
Surah al Mulk is a Makki surah, and it has a number of names such as:
الْمُلْكُ: The Dominion
تَبَارَك
تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ
الْمَانِعَة : The Defender
الْمُنْجِيَة : The Rescuer
الْوَاقِيَة : The Shield
الْمُجَادِلَة : The Advocate
This surah also has numerous virtues:
The Surah that intercedes for its reciter: The Prophet ﷺ said, “There is a surah in the Qur’an comprised of 30 verses that interceded for a person until he was forgiven. It is تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ .” [Musnad Ahmad]
The Surah that shields its reciter: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Surah Tabarak is the protector from the punishment of the grave.” [al-Silsilah al-Sahihah]
‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (ra) said, “A person is approached in the grave from the side of his feet, and it is said, ‘You have no way from here, because he used to recite Surah Mulk.’ Then he is approached from the side of his chest/stomach, and it is said, ‘You have no way from here, because he used to recite Surah Mulk,’ then he is approached from the side of his head and it is said, ‘You have no way from here, because he used to recite Surah Mulk,’ for it is a shield that will shield against punishment of the grave.” [Saheeh al-Targheeb]
The Surah that will argue on behalf of its reciter so he may enter Paradise: The Prophet ﷺ said, “A surah from the Qur’an which is only 30 verses, will argue for its reciter until he is admitted into paradise, and that surah isتَبَارَك .” [Saheeh al-Jaami’]
The Surah that will argue on behalf of its reciter so he is taken out of Hell and admitted into Paradise: The Prophet ﷺ said, “There is a surah in the Book of Allah which is only 30 verses, and it will intercede for a person until he is taken out of the Fire and admitted into Paradise.” [Saheeh al-Jaami’]
Its recitation is one of the best things to do: ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (ra) said, “And there is in the Book of Allah a surah; whoever recites it in the night has recited much and has done very well.” [Saheeh al-Targheeb]
Reciting it before sleeping: Jabir (ra) narrated, “The Prophet ﷺ did not sleep until he recited al-Sajdah and al-Mulk.” [al-Silsilah al-Sahihah]
