وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ
“and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased.” (Surah Taha: 84)
Hastening to Allah’s pleasure is the best thing we can do in this one life we are given. When we hasten to seek Allah’s pleasure in our work, it shows our eagerness to be near Him and to attain His approval, because it is His approval that ultimately matters.
However, more often, we spend our lives trying to please other people. We worry about what “people will think”. We worry about our image in front of others. We worry about our status and standing in society. We do things for the sake of people. We work for the sake of people. We sacrifice for the sake of people. We vie for their approval. Yet we are still not happy…
And that’s because real pleasure lies with the Pleasure and Approval of Allah. When Allah is pleased with us, what does it matter if people aren’t? It is Allah after all, who has created us and the people around us.
So, hasten to attain the pleasure of Allah. Hasten to perform Salah and all kinds of good deeds. Hasten to those avenues that will lead to Jannah and His approval.
“and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased.”
